Aviation
Since 2007, Ken Garner Engineering has held a 5 year term contract with Salt Lake City,
Department of Airports (SLCDA). It was recently renewed for a continuous 5 year term, to
end in 2017. During our tenure, we have successfully completed over 65 projects with the
SLC Department of Airports, SLC International Airport, and HMSHOST, ranging from the Delta
Central Plant area remodel, to Arc Flash studies throughout the airport. One of the largest
and most difficult projects was the Boarding Bridge Upgrade at Concourse B, which required us
to reroute large electrical distribution feeders while maintaining power for various airport
components. The project was fast-track construction, with many inherent design challenges,
and encompassed several boarding bridges, it was successfully completed within 90 days.
KGE also completed 13 other Boarding Bridge projects in Concourses C and D.
Corporate
We have completed several corporate projects including the Equitable Life & Casualty offices,
our 2007 IESNA Award winner for 'International illumination Design.' KGE understands that
technology systems play a critical role in today's office environment. Therefore, we focus
our design on providing a robust and innovative system that meets the needs of the building
occupants, and provides a comfortable and energy conscious work space.
Data Centers & Telecom
KGE has a fresh perspective of the intricacies of data center and telecom projects. We have
proven project experience within the specific components that make up these types of projects.
From an electrical design perspective, the specific components are: Stand Alone Generators
and Uninterruptible Power Supplies, UPS Radio and/or Microwave communication systems,
Shielding Components, Data center and Telephone Calling Center components, Security Systems,
and Generator Power Systems. KGE has completed multiple projects within these individual
sectors, and as a whole, has completed Data Centers for Universities, Military, and the
Government, as well as, large corporations.
Government/Military
Ken Garner Engineering, Inc. has extensive experience with government and military projects
of all varieties, ranging from military base substations to adult detention centers. We have
established relationships with Camp Williams, Hill Air Force Base, Fort Douglas, and Utah
Test &Training Range, Utah National Guard. A few of our government clients include the USDA,
USPS, and the Salt Lake International Department of Airports. KGE currently holds a one year
renewable up to 6 year IDIQ contract with the SLC Dept of Airports and have been renewed each
year. We are currently in our 5th year of the contract and every year we continuously
receive a larger percentage of their work.
Health Care
We have completed a wide variety of projects in the Medical field, ranging from new
construction to renovation and expansion projects. KGE held the term contract at the VA
Medical Center in Salt Lake City, for three years, and completed 14 major renovation projects
for them. We have also completed numerous projects for the University of Utah Medical Center,
LDS Hospital, Primary Children's Hospital, and Intermountain Health Care. In addition, we
have recently completed a Peer Review for the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of
Utah.
Higher Education
62.3 % of our current work is Higher Education. We consider ourselves the 'Higher Education
Specialists' when it comes to University standards, solid relationships and years of
experience. KGE has completed numerous projects for the University of Utah, Brigham Young
University, Utah State University, Southern Utah University, Utah Valley University and most
recently, the $23 million, Salt Lake Community College, Instructional and Administration
Complex.
K-12
The K-12 sector is the second largest client for Ken Garner Engineering, Inc. We have an
extensive portfolio of successful K-12 projects, throughout 10 School Districts, in Utah and
Idaho. KGE excels at additions, remodels, and phased construction and understands the tight
construction and tight maintenance budgets School Districts face. In addition to that, we
have an excellent understanding of IT, AV, security & FA systems. : 29% of our work is done
directly with the End User.
Historical Renovation
KGE has a history of award winning historical renovations, including the 2009 Utah Heritage
Foundation, Heritage Award for the University of Utah, College of Business Pierre Lassonde
Entrepreneur Center Commanding Officer's House at Fort Douglas. And just recently, the 2010
Utah Heritage Award for the Children's Center at Oquirrh Place renovation. We take great pride
in our historical renovations and remodels and successfully understand how to fuse the old
with the new, while maintaining the original integrity of the building.
Recreation
We have completed several recreation projects for both the public and private sectors. KGE's
recreation experience includes: recreation centers, ice arenas, school gymnasiums, sports
arenas, stadiums, and University field houses. We have the skills to keep up with today's
innovative aspects of recreation projects, from aquatic centers to climbing walls, to sound
design. KGE is thorough and attentive throughout the entire process, ensuring customer
satisfaction.
Substations
KGE has extensive experience with substations in the military, industrial, educational, and
corporate sectors. We will not only design the project, but participate in establishing the
exact scope of work, establish and maintain the project budget, and establish phasing
concepts that may be used throughout the life of the substation. When it comes to
substations, KGE is adept at fast track design!
